Justice Minister Tzipi Livni decided to void the bill to reform religious services , recently announced by the Minister of Religious Affairs Naftali Bennett and Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan.

Her decision is a response to the Jewish Home's decision to delay the enactment of the "Stern Law" to expand the electoral body for the Chief Rabbinate.

We note that the Bennett and Ben Dahan bill seeks to legislate that appointments of heads of religious councils are made by a committee or public tender, with full transparency and in accordance with professional standards. Additionally, the proposal seeks to reduce the number of religious councils.

The Jewish Home announced,  "We were surprised by the move to prevent the revolution in religious services. The direct result of the decision will be the eradication of competition and efficiency in religious services, and inefficiency in religious councils will continue. "

"We will fight the decision," vows the party.
