Report: Coalition Chairman Plans High-Court Revolution

Coalition Chairman Yariv Levin is planning a revolution to limit the power of Supreme Court justices, according to a Tuesday-morning report by the Yisael Hayom daily. The Likud-Beyteinu lawmaker claims he has a majority in the coalition and expects a majority in the Knesset's Constitution, Justice and Law Committee.

Levin's plans include the government or the Knesset getting one more representative on the committee to select judges at the expense of one judges' representative, the establishment of public hearings for High Court nominees and opening Supreme Court sessions to broadcasts and photography. He is advancing legislation on the last point, co-sponsored by Member of Knesset Zahava Gal-On (Meretz).
