Minister of Tourism Uzi Landau said, Tuesday, that the country is not scratching the surface of its potential for foreign tourism. Interviewed by the Yisrael Hayom daily, ahead of Tuesday's opening of the second Jerusalem International Tourism Conference, he said he was going to concentrate on strengthening domestic tourism and invest in targeting the Chinese and evangelistic market.
Landau said, "In European countries, six percent of the Gross Domestic Product comes through incoming tourism, although in some countries it is nine percent, and we only have 2.3, even though we have a lot to offer. We are the cradle of Jewish and Christian civilization. The prophets walked here, the Bible was written here, all the extraordinary events in history happened here, and all that we succeed to transmit is that we only get 2.3 percent? It's not enough."
