Austria: 5,880 Items of Holocaust Loot Returned

The Austrian Ministry of Culture has announced that it has ended its campaign to return items suspected of having been taken by the Nazis from Jews during the Holocaust. Of the more than 70,000 items in museums and archives throughout the country that were examined, 5,880 were returned to their owners or the heirs of the owners.

The campaign lasted 14 years. The project leader called it a success despite the thousands of items whose owners or heirs could not be found.
