Report: Kerry Offered Freeze for Talks

Secretary of State John Kerry of the United States asked Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Thursday, if he was ready to freeze construction in a full, official, public way in Judea and Samaria (Shomron), according to a Friday morning report by the Ma'ariv daily. The newspaper adds that Kerry said that he would ask Chairman Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority if that would be enough to renew talks with Israel.

The responses of the two local leaders is unknown but a senior official in Jerusalem said that it would be hard for Netanyahu to agree to such a move, noting that he is restricted politically because of the makeup of his coalition. It is also believed that Abu-Mazen would refuse.
