Members Knesset from the hareidi United Torah Judaism party criticized, Sunday evening, the reform program announced during the day by Religious Affairs Minister Naftali Bennett. Rabbi Ya'akov Asher said, "The disastrous results of this 'revolution' could severely undermine the institution of the Jewish rabbinate."
Rabbi Mordechai Gafni said, "Bennett's move, just days after the government voted on the mortal and disproportionate blow to the budget of Torah institutions, including the institutions he represents, will hurt service to the citizen." He said Bennett's remarks accompanying the announcement of the reforms "show his lack of understanding of the basic processes that take place in the state of Israel." Rabbi Meir Porush said, "On issues regarding the foundation of the Jewish people, we must not make changes under the guise of simplifying bureaucracy. Today it's a technicality. Tomorrow, Heaven forbid, it will be a break in the tradition of Israel."
