Morsi and Abbas Condemn Israeli Acts in Jerusalem

Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi and Chairman Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority condemned Israel, Thursday, for what they called "the prolonged Israeli violations in the holy places of Jerusalem" and demanded "an immediate stop to the violations, which are contrary to all international conventions." They called on the international community "to supply the needed protection to the holy places of Islam and Christianity in Jerusalem" and "to shoulder its responsibility to stop these crimes and to prevent them from being repeated in the future."

The two leaders met to discuss what was going on in Judea and Samaria (Shomron), Egypt's efforts to bring about reconciliation between Abu-Mazen's Fatah faction and Hamas, and the situation in Syria.
