The Mirror reports a British climber was hit by the full force of an avalanche but managed to "swim" along it and walk out the other side.

He was descending the 4,800m-high Mont Blanc in the Alps when the snow suddenly shifted from underneath and took him away, explains The Mirror.

He was found with only minor cuts and bruises after he frantically tried to stay at the top of the flow and stop himself getting buried.

The Mirror adds photographer Ben Tibbetts, 31, of Hereford, and fellow Brit Misha Gopaul, 33, were climbing with the unidentified Briton and saw him get swept off.

He said: "He rode the avalanche, floated at the top and managed to walk away," concludes The Mirror.
