Jerusalem police arrested 25 people for rioting near the Shchem Gate and Herod's Gate at the Old City. The suspects threw rocks and bottles at people. Police successfully quelled the attacks and were at one point forced to use high pressure water hoses when lighter methods failed to dissuade the instigators. The riots were staged for Nakba Day. The word nakba means catastrophe in Arabic and is meant to mourn the reestablishment of the State of Israel.
