State to High Court: Anti-Infiltration Law is Proper

The State Attorney's Office asked the Supreme Court, Monday, to reject a petition by refugee rights groups against a law to prevent illegal infiltration into Israel. The law includes a clause that allows the state to detain an illegal infiltrator for three years without a trial.

Responding to the petition, the state said, "The fabric of the amendment to the law to prevent infiltration is constitutional. Its infringement on freedom is a completely proper purpose, consistent with the values of the state of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, and stands up to the principle of proportionality."
