Children Get Esther Karish Memorial Settlement Shield

Slightly more than a month after the passing of settlement activist Esther Karish, regional council chairmen and residents' committees in Binyamin and Samaria (Shomron) presented the first annual "Settlement Shield" in her memory to her children this week. The award cited the co-founder and executive director of the Samaria Residents' Council as "a woman of valor, a fighter and a dreamer who dedicated days and nights to the struggle for the land and, at the same time, openly and secretly, assisted many who needed her help."

The award will be presented every year on the anniversary of the liberation of Jerusalem and Samaria during the Six Day War because of the proximity to the anniversary of Esther Karish's passing. It seeks to honor "exemplary figures who have helped the settlement enterprise flourish".
