President of Yemen: Al-Qaeda Expanding Activities Here

President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi of Yemen warned, Thursday evening, that his country's branch of the Al-Qaeda international terror network was expanding. He said the group was using assassinations and the abduction of tourists to undermine the government's authority and that the country's security situation could become very precarious.

The president's remarks came following word that a Finnish couple and an Australian student, who were abducted by Al-Qaeda in the capital, Sana'a, in December, were freed by residents of the village of Hawf, on Yemen's border with eastern neighbor Oman. Al-Jazeera reported that the villagers arrested the kidnappers and turned the newly-freed hostages over to Omani authorities.
