The historic photo of the Russian flag raised over the Reichstag building in Berlin had been doctored by order of Stalin to display clouds of shelling smoke for drama, and to conceal the second wristwatch worn by the brave soldier hoisting the flag, who happened to have looted it.
The original of the image was recently discovered in the home of its Jewish photographer Yevgeni Khaldei, and was framed and put on display in the Moscow Jewish Museum.
