Muslims Call to Prevent Likud Ascent to Temple Mount

Islamic sources are using their Websites to call on their followers to go to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City on Tuesday and prevent an organized visit by members of the nationalist camp in the Likud party, according to Jewish Temple Mount movements. The Likud visit is in response to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's orders to prevent Likud Member of Knesset Moshe Feiglin from going up to the holy site and instructions barring the Knesset Interior Committee from going there.

In light of recent clashes and the public debate about going up to the Temple Mount, the Temple Mount organizations have called for adoption of Deputy Foreign Minister Ze'ev Elkin's proposal to share the Temple Mount in the same way that the Me'arat Hamachpelah Cave of the Patriarchs in Hevron is shared. Certain areas of the Hevron site are closed to Jews on all but a few Jewish holidays, and the site is only open to Muslims on certain Muslim holidays.
