Police: Harsh Response to Beitar-Sakhnin Violence

The Israel Police made it clear, Friday, that a "harsh and uncompromising" response will meet any sign of violence Saturday night, inside or outside Doha Stadium in the Galilee Arab city of Sakhnin, where Bnei Sakhnin host Beitar Jerusalem in a Premier League soccer playoff game. Sakhnin is largest Sufi Muslim city in Israel and and racial tensions flare when the two teams meet because of nationalist emotions among the fans of the two teams.

The police said, "We ask all the fans to remember that this is a sports event and both sides must act to keep things calm." Northern District Police Commander Roni Attias will supervise the 600 officers assigned to maintain order at the 8,500-seat arena.
