Members of Knesset from the hareidi-religious United Torah Judaism party called, Monday, for an investigation into transportation shortfalls in the Galilee community of Meron during Lag Ba'Omer observances Saturday night and Sunday. Noting the lack of drinking water in the extreme heat, Knesset member Meir Porush said, "Although the expected number of visitors was known to all, the state did not prevent the terrible catastrophe that could have resulted in the loss of life." He said similar problems come up every few years, but thanked some of those in charge for attending to the needs of rabbis and hasidim who attended.
Member of Knesset Uri Maklev said personal conclusions should be drawn against those responsible and that changes should be made soon. Member of Knesset Ya'akov Asher said he was on the telephone from the early morning hours to do something about the situation, calling it unthinkable after all the time organizers had to prepare. He said he would do all he could to bring preparedness up to proper levels.
