Report: Soldier Salaries Going Up 20 Percent Next Year

Israelis in compulsory military service will earn 20 percent more, starting next year, according to a Friday report by the Yediot Acharonot daily. The increase will be worth 2,000 shekels ($555) a year for combat personnel, who currently make NIS 700 ($194) a month, and NIS 1,000 ($277) a year for non-combat personnel, who earn 352 shekels ($98).

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon decided to raise the pay of regular soldiers 21 percent after the salaries went more than a decade without being adjusted.
