Chairwoman Aliza Lavie of the Knesset Committee on Advancing the Status of Women asked Education Minister Shai Piron to coordinate the vacation schedule of young students with that of working parents. Speaking ahead of next Monday's school holiday for the observance of Lag B'Omer, the Yesh Atid lawmaker said the idea was to free parents to go to work. She explained, "We want to encourage people to work, but vacation schedules, especially the two-days of Lag BaOmer, which is new this year, puts parents in an impossible situation, since they are forced to take days off in the middle of the year because they have no other solution. Unfortunately, it's usually the women who remain at home to keep the kids, which does not help them promote their status in the workplace."
Dr. Lavie said Rabbi Peron replied that he is forming a staff to re-evaluate the whole issue and formulate recommendations.
