The Knesset held a special session on Wednesday marking the birthday of Theodor Herzl. Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu spoke about the Judeo-phobic attitudes that Herzl dealt with at the time. Those pretentions, combined with a nostalgia for his roots prompted him to advocate seeking a better life in Der Judenstaat or the Jewish State, as Herzl termed it.
Benaymin Zev Herzl, his Hebrew name, was born on May 2, 1860. The corresponding date on the Hebrew calendar falls on Wednesday.
