Aryeh Zonenberg of Beit Shemesh, west of Jerusalem, was detained by police, Monday afternoon, for praying on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City. Police claim that Jewish prayer on the holy site constitutes a violation of public order and a threat to public safety in light of Arab threats and warned him twice about that when he arrived, the second warning accompanied by the threat of arrest.
Zonenberg claimed that the policy is illegal and that the arrest of worshippers on the Temple Mount is illegal. He said he plans to sue the police for false arrest and racial discrimination. His attorney, Avi'ad Visouli, said the police did not have a legal ground for an arrest would be forced to release his client in short order after making him sign a form distancing himself from the site, a form that Visouli said was illegal and was not binding.
