El Al Head: We Expect Government Security Subsidy

Chief Executive Officer Eliezer Shkedi of El Al Israel Airlines made it clear, Monday, that the heads of the company respect the government and its decision to sign the "open skies" agreement with the European Union. He added, "We have asked and are asking the Israeli government to act immediately to take care of the different matters that will enable fair and even-handed competition, led by a full subsidy of the security costs born by Israeli airlines."

Employees of El Al, Arkia and Yisrair are on strike for fear of layoffs due to the companies being at a disadvantage with carriers from European countries who already subsidize the airlines that will fly here under the new arrangement.
