Cabel: Think about Yossi the El Al Baggage Handler

Member of Knesset Eitan Cabel (Labor) satirized Finance Minister Yair Lapid in reacting to the government's decision, Sunday, to ratify the "open skies" agreement, which opens routes between Israeli and European Union destinations. The government promoted the agreement, based on the claim it will make flights cheaper and create jobs.

Using to Lapid's reference to a mythical wage-earner named Ricky Cohen, Cabel said, "It's important that Ricky Cohen from Hadera be able to fly cheaply on her holiday abroad, but more it's more important that Yossi Cohen, the baggage handler from El Al will have a job tomorrow. Competition is good and will serve the Israeli consumer, but the government must implement it through dialogue with Israeli airlines and not just aggressively "
