Iran's Neighbor Georgia Strengthens Ties with Israel

David Jalagania the Deputy Foreign Minister of Goergia visited Israel on Wednesday. He met with Deputy Foreign Minister Zeev Elkin and the two signed an agreement for visa exemptions for diplomatic passports. Citizens of Georgia will no longer need to apply fir a visa if they already hold diplomatic and official passports. The two also discussed sanctions against Iran. The issue is significant because of Georgia's geographical proximity to Iran and the Black Sea.

The Republic of Georgia is often referred to in Israel as Grusinia. It was a former Soviet republic and had an ancient Jewish community. A large portion of the Georgian Jewish community has immigrated to Israel.
