Outstanding soldiers were recognized, Tuesday morning, during the "Singing Indepence" Ceremony at the President's Residence in Jerusalem. Referring to them as "excellent soldiers in an excellent army", President Shim'on Peres said, "I am happy to see you here as part of the full human and social diversity of the Israel Defense Forces. It's a spectacularly beautiful rainbow... made up of the colors of fondness and freedom... which overcomes ethnic and gender shadows...from beginning to end 'All Israel are friends.'"
Comparing the soldiers to the Iron Dome anti-missile defense system, Chief of Staff Benny Gantz said, "Thanks to you it really is a happy Independence Day. An entire nation looks at you and gets a reminder that it has someone to trust, someone on whom to lean." He told the parents of the soldiers that the awards given out represent their "education prize".
