Report: Al-Qaeda Targeted Istanbul Synagogue

Operatives of the Al-Qaeda international terrorist network planned to attack a synagogue in Istanbul and the United States embassy in Ankara, according to a Thursday report by the New York Times. Turkish police uncovered the plot and arrested 12 suspects in February.

The Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front claimed it carried out an attack on the embassy on February 1st, which took the life of a suicide bomber and a Turkish security guard. The group, on the U.S. list of terror organizations, cited Turkish support for opponents of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
