Iranian MP Threatens: We'll Consider Leaving NPT

Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi of the Security and Foreign Policy Committee in the Iranian parliament warned, Monday, that the Tehran government will seriously consider pulling out of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty if the international community increases sanctions against its nuclear development program or brings the matter to the United Nations Security Council.

Boroujerdi said the Islamic Republic cannot remain a party to the treaty if it is punished for exercising its right to enrich uranium. He said his country is upholding all the clauses of the treaty, and the United States and other Western countries are the ones who are violating it.
