Jack Teitel Sentence Scheduled Tuesday

Sentencing is scheduled Tuesday in the Jerusalem District Court for American-Israeli Ya'akov "Jack" Teitel of the Samarian (Shomron) Jewish community of Shevut Rachel, who was convicted about three months ago on two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder. Prosecutors are seeking two consecutive life sentences plus 70 years.

Teitel's attorneys entered a plea bargain about a year ago in the 1997 murder of two Palestinian Authority Arabs and the wounding of three people in the course of at least seven attacks. Among his alleged victims were Christian Amiel Ortiz of the western Samarian Jewish city of Ariel, who was seriously wounded by an exploding Purim package , and radical leftist Professor Ze'ev Sternhell, who called force against Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria legitimate, on whose property a bomb was found.
