British Archaeologists have excavated a mansion in Ur Kasdim, the birthplace of Abraham in Iraq.
According to Jewish tradition Ur Kasdim was named this way (The Kasdian Fire) for the great furnace into which King Nimrod would cast worshippers of deities other than his. Our sages relate that following a public royal debate in which Abraham proved the authenticity of his Faith in One G-d, Nimrod attempted to cremate him, and Abraham emerged from the furnace miraculously unscathed. In response, Nimrod conceded and showered Abraham with many gifts and wealth. Abraham proceeded to establish a house of learning to introduce all heathens to his faith and devotion to the Creator.
The mansion discovered in Ur Kasdim was clearly owned by an esteemed individual, complimented by a pottery ornament of a religious figure wrapped in a prayer shawl, deep in meditation.
