Ya'alon: Gaza will Continue to be Hostile

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said, Thursday, "The Gaza Strip puts on a form and takes it off, is not stable, and will continue to be hostile in the near future." Referring to small amounts of rocket fire aimed at Israel during remarks at the inauguration of Shlomo (Sami) Turgeman as commander of the Israel Defense Forces' Southern District, he continued, "Of course Hamas is responsible and we should keep our sites aimed at them and we cannot allow ourselves the reality of sprinkles. I wish us and you the wisdom to deter the other side and not have to subdue them."

Congratulating outgoing commander Tal Russo on the end of 35 years of service, the former chief of staff said, "I was pleased to see that you brought your direct common sense, wisdom and vast operational experience to the job of commander of the Southern District," which were reflected in Russo's running of the Pillar of Defense counter-terror campaign, even if events of the last few days showed that the cease-fire that was achieved was not complete.
