Expert: Egyptian Uprising had a Part in Turkey Story

Doctor Nimrod Goren, a Hebrew University expert on the changing relations between Israel and Turkey, said, Thursday, that the situation in Egypt was a contributing factor to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's conversation with Turkish leader Recep Tayyin Erdoğan, including Israel's apology for events aboard the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara, when it tried to break the Gaza naval blockade in 2010. Interviewed on Arutz Sheva's Hebrew journal, Doctor Goren said Mohammed Morsi's rise to power brought Israel to the realization that it needed to find a significant strategic anchor in the stormy Middle East

Goren said Erdoğan understood that his policies were not achieving the desired results, especially on the Syrian front, and now he is forced to come to agreements with leaders of his sworn enemy, the Kurdish PKK party, and while such agreements include concessions, there were positive results.
