Anti-Semitic Graffiti in Venezuelan Capital

Anti-Semitic graffiti, including the message "Out with Jewish murderers," was spray-painted, over the weekend, on stores owned by Jews in the San Bernardino section of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. Police have promised to investigate the incidents, saying they won't permit violence against groups on the basis of religion.

Interim President Nicolas Maduro has accused Israel and the United States of murdering the late president Hugo Chavez, who died of cancer, earlier this month. In the wake of these charges and other anti-Semitic remarks by Maduro, as well as fear of a wave of anti-Semitism, a number of Jewish community events have been cancelled, including the dedication of a Torah scroll at the central synagogue of Caracas.
