A source close to the house of the Shas party's spiritual leader, Rabbi Ovadia Yoseph, said, Friday, that the party's three co-chairmen, Ariel, Attias, Aryeh Der'i and Eli Yishai, are not cooperating with each other. In a conversation with Arutz Sheva, the source said that Der'i releases announcements to the media as "Shas leader" but former interior minister Eli Yishai does not waste any opportunity to present his good relations with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. The source says Attias "knows his place" but aspires to get close to Rabbi Yoseph and inherit the chairmanship that Yishai has held since Der'i lost it because of a corruption conviction. The source says Der'i and Yishai know this but continue to fight, on the assumption that one of them will be chosen for the top spot.
The source said each of them says he is not responsible for the party's failure to enter the current government but they do agree that the fight will be decided by Rabbi Ovadia or Yehudit Yoseph.
