Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of the United Nations announced, Thursday evening, the opening of an official investigation into claims that nerve gas was used, Tuesday, in the Syrian city of Aleppo. The government of President Bashar Al-Assad and opposition forces traded accusations as to who used the deadly weapon. Ban said the investigation would focus on the specific incident referred to by the Damascus regime.
A senior American source said the United States had strong evidence that no use of chemical weapons has been made in the last week. The source conceded that the possibility could not be ruled out completely.
