Legal Forum for Land of Israel: Investigate Marathon

The Legal Forum for the Land of Israel asked the Attorney General's Office, Sunday, to order an investigation into suspicions of negligence in last Friday's running of the Tel Aviv Half Marathon and shorter races, in which one person died and dozens of others had to be treated for heat stroke and were even hospitalized in light of the Sharav heatwave conditions in effect at the time of the half marathon and smaller races.

Forum attorney Tomer Yisrael wrote that the casualties represent a failure that could have been avoided, were it not for those at the Tel Aviv municipality, behind the scenes, despite warnings to cancel or postpone the races. He added that by proceeding with the race, "the municipality did not serve as a trustee of the public." He said that if an investigation is not held, "it is doubtful that steps will be taken to to avoid a recurrence of similar incidents in the future."
