The police department's economic-crimes unit has finished an investigation of suspected corruption in the Tel-Mond local council, in the Sharon region, northeast of Tel Aviv, and is expected to submit its findings to Central District prosecutors in a few days. The investigation, which started in 2010, centers around the 2008 local council elections.
Associates of local council chairman Shlomo Ratzabi, including a senior employee, are suspected of taking checks from employees of the local authority, intended as contributions to Ratzabi's re-election campaign. The associates allegedly filled out fictitious contribution forms and gave the employess cash. Ratzabi allegedly approved illegal discounts or relief from local taxes in exchange for supporting him.
