Gefilte Fish in High Demand for Passover

Fish Growers Association Secretary Yossi Yaish told INN demand for ground carp increases 75% in anticipation of Passover gefilte fish, way ahead of the tilapia, the popular favorite all year round. Some 1100 tons of carp, 800 tons of tilapia and 300 tons of mullet are expected to marketed for Passover. “Fish are very healthful,” explains Yaish, “and the average Israeli consumes some 10kg annually. Tilapia once a week provides sufficient vitamin D, and mullet is a great source of Omega-3, preferable  to salmon, which contains traces of mercury.”
