Sephardic Religious Leader Laments New Coalition

Member of Knesset Eli Yishai (Shas) lamented the emerging coalition agreement. The new government, while not officially announced, appears to have the Bayit Yehudi and Yesh Atid party taking over many of the ministries formerly held by the Shas and United Torah Judaism party. MK Yishai is the outgoing Minister of Internal Affairs, is credited for having stopped the massive influx of illegal migrant workers from the south, among other accomplishments. Although he accepted the new make-up of the 19th Knesset, he expressed his fears that the Yeshiva community and religious Sephardic demographic would be under-represented. Alluding to the issue of army conscription, which Bayit Yehudi and Yesh Atid both agree upon, he stated, "I'm sorry you do not have more in common than the dislike of 'the other'." Yishai was born in Jerusalem to Tunisian immigrants.
