The mayor of the mostly secular community of Adam blamed the Peace Now organization for strife between the Jewish Adam residents and the Arabic Muslim residents of Jaba and Silwad. Bar Vanunu, the mayor of the community told Arutz Sheva news on Wednesday that the Jewish and Arab neighborhoods would have less strife if not for a Supreme Court petition filed by lawyers from Peace Now. Vanunu said that Peace Now is claiming some of Adam's land actually belongs to Arab residents. The Supreme Court may go forwarding with forcing the removal of certain fences. "Uprooting the fence and the re-construction of the fence in the community will create an impossible reality," Vanunu stated, where Arab and Jewish neighbors will be forced into uncomfortably close proximity with each other. "We were their friends and worked with them closely, even going to events and celebrations, but Peace Now people are trying to stir up the atmosphere here," the mayor stated. He added that there was room for "about 30 thousand more households" commenting that the Jewish community would "stay here forever."
Adam is located about 10 - 15 minutes from the edge of Jerusalem in the Geva Benyamin region of Samaria. The majority of the residents lead a secular lifestyle unlike several neighboring communities which are mostly religious.
