UN Envoy Against MK Uri Ariel for Housing Minister

The UN envoy to the Middle East, Robert Serry, met on Tuesday with activists from Kol Ehad (One Voice) who have recently come out against the possible appointment of MK Uri Ariel (Jewish Home) to Housing Minister.

Serry was quoted in Ma'ariv as saying at the meeting as saying that the appointment would spell a new wave of construction in the communities of Judea and Samaria which are viewed as problematic by the international community and that the increase in construction would invite condemnation and would hurt Israel's standing in the international community.

In response to this, MK Ariel said, "This is the most brazen expression which constitutes a blatant interference in the sovereignty of the State of Israel, which is still in the process of forming a government."

He added that Serry's comments are "not surprising given the biased and anti-Israel stance of the UN."
