Rabbis to Habayit Hayehudi: Talk to Hareidi Parties

Rabbis Eliyakum Levanon of Samaria (Shomron) and Shmuel Eliyahu of Tzfat wrote a letter to the heads of Habayit Hayehudi (Jewish Home-New National Religious Party), Monday morning, in which they publicly called on the party to open immediate coalition talks with the hareidi-religious parties. The two rabbis, who support Habayit Hayehudi, have been working behind the scenes over the last few days in an attempt to create unity between the hareidim and the religious Zionist publics.

The letter expresses concern over the atmosphere of estrangement that has accompanied coalition negotiations, noting that the two communities support the Torah and its commandments despite their differences. It recognizes the harsh language coming out of the hareidi corner, adding that the religious Zionists should operate as "insulted but not insulting" and not respond in a "tit for tat" fashion so as to honor the Torah and the land of Israel and to set a good example.
