Severe Sanctions Against Hareidim Who Don't Serve?

Severe personal penalties will be imposed on members of the hareidi-religious community who don't do national service, under an outline agreed upon by the heads of the biggest parties, according to a Monday morning report by the Ma'ariv daily.

The sanctions include a ban on foreign travel, cancellation of student status at the Bituach Le'umi National Insurance Institute and cancellation of various benefits. The package was proposed last summer under the outline of the Plesner Committee on Equal Burden of Service, which attempted to find legislation to replace the Tal Law, which was struck down by the Supreme Court as a way to regulate hareidi national service.
