A three-judge panel of the Supreme Court is scheduled to hold a hearing, Monday, on a petition by the Movement for Governability and Democracy (MGD) against Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein and the Justice Ministry over the two-month extensions of the terms Sarit Dana, Deputy Attorney General for Civilian Affairs, and Yoram Hacohen, head of the ministry's Technology and Science Authority. The petition cites the lack of implementation of government decisions even though there was a lot of time to prepare for the scheduled ends of the terms and to find successors. After that the Exceptions Committee was pressured into meeting again a month after determining that it was reasonable for the terms to end on schedule.
The petition cites a protocol of the meeting that approved the extension, which indicates a conflict of interest among a number of the committee members. MGD Chairman Yehuda Amrani said, "If another government office or any public body would try to act the way the Justice Ministry and the attorney general acted, the attorney general himself would not think of allowing this and would prevent it without question but for himself - it's allowed."
