Negev Seeks Morsi’s Help with Locusts

Shmulik Rifman, head of the Ramat Hanegev region, has appealed to Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi to help Israel in more effectively fighting locusts. Rifman asked Morsi to allow Israeli planes to spray pesticide over approaching locust swarms as they drifted over the Sinai desert, rather than waiting for them to reach the Negev region.

Egypt’s Giza region has suffered in recent days from a major swarm of locusts. Warm weather and southern winds have brought some of the locusts to Israel, where agricultural officials are trying to ward them off with pesticides.
