Residents of the Falkland Islands are holding a referendum Sunday and Monday on the question of remaining a British colony. The Islands’ 1,672 eligible voters are expected to vote heavily in favor.

Islanders initiated the referendum as a message to Argentinian President Christina Kirchner, who has been increasingly vocal in her demands that the territory, which Argentina terms Las Malvinas, belongs with Argentina.
