Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein announced on Wednesday evening that he does not intend to intervene in the decision of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to save the Foreign Ministry portfolio to Yisrael Beytenu chairman Avigdor Lieberman, until the end of his trial.
MK Merav Michaeli (Labor), who had been among those who asked Weinstein to investigate whether the matter was legal, said in response that “the Attorney General’s decision is very unfortunate. It impairs the ability of employees of the Foreign Ministry to testify freely, could endanger their future, paralyzes the Foreign Ministry at a critical time and further reduces the threshold of public behavior in Israel.”
