Rivlin: There Was a Stain of Treason, We Were Silent

MK Reuven Rivlin (Likud) called for a special discussion concerning the release of Jonathan Pollard and attempted to explain the government's silence in the past over the lifetime imprisonment of Pollard.

"The people of Israel, the Israeli government and Israel pushed him off the public agenda and denied the voices of the few who called for action. There was a stain of treason and of betrayal on the blue and white flag and therefore we thought we needed to remain silent ... we felt it would help him," recalled Rivlin.

Rivlin added that the Israeli public understood over the years that "silence would not help", and began to openly urge Pollard's release.
