A memorial will be held Tuesday for 16 Jewish fighters who lost their lives defending the border of Jerusalem in the War of 1948. This will be the first time in 65 years that a joint memorial service will be conducted with both the families of the fallen and military officials. The service will be held at Mount Herzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem.
The units fought to defend Jerusalem from the armies of Jordan, also known at the time as Transjordan, and local irregulars. The other fronts in the war were fought against Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, and militantly assistance from Iraq and Saudia Arabia.
