Hundreds of locusts arrived in Israel's southern Negev region on Tuesday. The locust swarm previously invaded Egypt. The communities of Midreshet Sde Boker, Ben Gurion University, Nitzana and other regions are affected.
Farmers and residents were alerted the day before and have taken precautions in ensure the flying insects do minimal damage.
The head of the Ramat Negev Regional Council Shmulik Rifman stated, "I have no doubt that we can prevent the locusts from destroyed farmland, but need to work quickly and decisively."
