Report: Early Labor Primaries Brewing

As the chances diminish for the Labor party to join the government, the opinion is growing that there will soon be an attempt to oust Chairwoman Shelly Yechimovich through party elections, according to a Tuesday report by the Yisrael Hayom daily.

The move is backed by senior Knesset members within the party who have been waiting for a last-minute entry into the coalition despite Yechimovich's repeated statements that it won't happen. Under party bylaws, primaries must be held within 14 months of an election that the party loses. Proponents of the move are examing the possiblity of not waiting until the last minute and holding the party elections in the next few months.
