Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke on the phone Monday with his French counterpart Francois Hollande on the cooperation between the two countries in regards to the worsening situation in Syria. 

"We agree that discourse can not pass through Bashar Assad," Holland said after the call. 

"During the French president's last visit to Russia, both sides continued to exchange views cooperatively to solve the situation in Syria," the statement from the Kremlin read.
